Wirral Community NHS Trust has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award, for enabling more patients to have Intra Venous antibiotics at home instead of in hospital.

The trust’s Community Nursing team has introduced new ways of working so that more highly trained staff can deliver IV antibiotics quickly, safely and effectively in the most comfortable environment for patients – their own home.

Sandra Christie, Director of Nursing, said: “We are delighted that this initiative has been shortlisted for The Royal College of Nursing’s annual awards – one of the UK’s top accolades for the nursing profession. Providing an IV antibiotic service within the community provides a better experience for patients, and supports the ‘Healthy Wirral’ agenda to bring more services out of hospital and avoid unnecessary hospital admissions.”

Winners will be announced at the RCN awards ceremony in May.
