Bob Jervis from Winsford has been announced as a winner of National Historic Ships UK’s 2013 photography competition at a prestigious awards ceremony, which took place yesterday onboard HMS Belfast.

NHS-UK’s annual photography competition, now in its fourth year, offered six categories up for grabs with a team of expert judges looking for entries with imagination, creativity and unusual perspectives in capturing the spirit of the UK’s maritime heritage.

Mr Jervis was chosen as the 2013 winner of the category ‘Historic Vessels on the National Register or National Archive of Historic Vessels’ for his image, Shroppie fly-boat Saturn horsedrawn on the Llangollen Canal. Mr Jervis won a copy of an image of his choice courtesy of Beken of Cowes Ltd.

This year’s judging panel included Jock Wishart, one of the UK’s leading maritime and polar adventurers; author Philip Hoare; Yachting Journalists Association Pantaenius Yachtsman of the Year, Geoff Holt; Peter Mumford, professional photographer from Beken of Cowes; David Newberry, ex-Captain of HMS Warrior 1860; editor of Classic Boat magazine, Dan Houston; and media strategist and broadcaster, Tracey Clarke.
