With spring drawing closer and the weather starting to improve, thoughts are turning towards summer for many people. Cheshire is a county that has a lot of outdoor events for sports fans, music lovers and families to enjoy.

Here are three events that you may want to consider in the summer of 2021.

Chester Racecourse

There has been horse racing taking place at Chester Racecourse since 1539, making it the oldest racecourse in the world.

Today Chester is one of the most unique racecourses in the UK. It is renowned for giving racecourse goers a fantastic experience. Many of their meetings are in the heart of the summer under the glorious sun at the Roodee. The racecourse is one mile, one furlong in distance. It is a tight track which means course specialists tend to do well there. Looking back at the racing results from their previous meetings helps to highlight the runners who have fared well at the course.

Arguably the biggest race of the year at Chester is the Chester Cup. This takes place over two miles and two furlongs so it is a real stamina test. Often dual-purpose horses have a lot of success in this race so keep an eye on the Cheltenham 2021 tips at the Cheltenham Festival to find horses who are in form this year.

Whether you are a big horse racing fan or enjoy the social occasion it offers, few are disappointed at the end of the day when they are leaving the racecourse.

Royal Cheshire County Show

When it comes to agricultural events, the Royal Cheshire County Show is one of the best in the country. The event received a Royal title in 2016 which says a lot about how highly the show is regarded.

Farming is vast across the county of Cheshire, and those who attend the Royal Cheshire County Show can see the finest animals from the region up close. There are various competitions which the local farmers take very seriously. This year’s event takes place between the 21st-23rd June so there are three days for you to choose from. Over 80,000 people visited in 2019 and a bumper crowd is expected across the three days once again this year.

Foodies Festival

The Foodies Festival at Tatton Park is the biggest food festival in the UK. This involves a celebration of food, drink, music and appliances. Some of the finest Michelin Star chefs make dishes to a live audience.

Foodies will love the opportunity to try different street food, desserts and wines. If you are pretty handy in the kitchen yourself, you can enter your own food in competitions to win prizes across the festival. Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Scouting For Girls and Toploader are all headlining the music stage at the Foodies Festival in 2021. These stages allow local artists to also get the chance to showcase some of their music.

This year’s festival is scheduled for the 9th-11th July. Tickets can be purchased in advance or on the day at the venue.

If you are lucky enough to attend one of the above three events this summer, have a great time.
