Cheshire Police have arrested a man from London on suspicion of fraud following an incident in Nantwich.

At approximately 4.00pm on Thursday 1st August, a 58-year-old lady in Nantwich received a call from a man claiming to be a police officer from the Metropolitan Police.

The man claimed that he was investigating the lady′s bank and required her to withdraw £9000 as part of the investigation.

After the lady had withdrawn the money the man then attended the victims address and collected the cash, claiming it was required as part of the inquiry.

After handing over the money, the lady became suspicious and decided to call the police, which was when she discovered that she had been defrauded.

Later on the same day, after information was received from a member of the public and enquiries by officers, a 21-year-old man was arrested in Crewe.

The 21-year-old, from London, was arrested on suspicion of fraud; he is currently helping officers with their enquiries.
