Wirral Bookfest, the literature festival, has announced its first headline act.

Roger McGough, legendary Liverpudlian poet, translator, writer of the Beatles animated film Yellow Submarine and former member of Sixties chart-toppers The Scaffold will join other well-known authors and poets for 2013’s Bookfest.

McGough, who has been described by poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy as ‘the patron saint of poetry’, will perform poetry from his new anthology As Far As I Know.

Ticket details and other acts will be announced in the coming months. For more information about Wirral libraries, visit the libraries website at www.wirral.gov.uk/libraries.
