A collection of World War War 1 images, showing the impact of the Great War on the people of Cheshire, begins its local tour on September 9.
Funded by the Heritage Lottery fund, the Great War project will be available via a touchscreen kiosk and show images from the Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East, Halton, Wirral and Warrington areas.
Themes include ‘On the Home Front’, ‘Serving Your Country’ and ‘We Will Remember Them’, exploring the impact of war on those who went to fight and those left behind.
The kiosk tours will begin on September 9 at Chester History and Heritage, St Michael’s Church, Bridge Street, Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse, in Northwich, Port Sunlight Museum, Cheshire Military Museum, Chester, Chester Library and Chester Cathedral.
The project will work with the local community to record stories which demonstrate the impact of the Great War in Cheshire.
There will be an opportunity for potential volunteers to learn more about the project, discover some research tips and how to use scanning, photographic and recording equipment on Saturday October 12 at Chester History and Heritage, St Michael’s Church, Bridge Street between11am-3pm.
The first Community Collection Roadshow also takes place at Chester History and Heritage, St Michael’s Church, on Saturday October 19, between 11am-4pm, when you are invited to bring in your own Great War collections to be carefully copied and returned.
These Community Collections will form part of a larger archive which will increase our knowledge of the impact of the war in Cheshire and help bring this local history to life.
