A Crewe community group is celebrating after being named as finalists at this year’s local government service awards for their dedication and commitment to improve Queens Park in Crewe.
Volunteers from ‘Friends of Queens Park’s Friendly ANTs, which stands for ‘Action Not Talk’, were presented with their finalist’s award by ice dance champion and international coach Maria Filippov at the star-studded Association for Public Excellence Awards (APSE) in the ‘Best Public Voluntary Partnership working initiative’ category.
The hotly-contested awards at Nottingham Ice Arena attracted nearly 400 submissions, with over 135 organisations taking part from across the UK.
The awards recognise the very best in local government frontline services, with councils throughout Britain recognised for their achievements in delivering excellence.
One of Queens Park’s friendly ANTs co-ordinators, Leanne Hawthornwaite, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be named as finalists for this award as it not only recognises all our hard work in making a real difference to Queens Park but it also puts Queens Park on the map.
“We have only been going for a year but thanks to the huge community spirit and our partnership with Cheshire East Council and Ansa Environmental Services, we have already improved the park considerably.”
