Macclesfield mayor launches Alzheimer fundraising group

The Mayor of Macclesfield, Councillor Cllr Alift Harewood-Jones MBE has http://www.alzheimersresearchuk.orgformally launched the very first Fundraising Group in the North West of England for Alzheimer’s Research UK, the UK’s leading dementia research charity.

The charity currently has 7 other groups spread across the country and is working on increasing this number.

The group leader, Dorothy Mayers (Midge)and some friends got together to start the group and they hope to recruit more volunteers with a wide range of skills for the group, which will aim to raise vital funds and awareness for the charity. They hope that other people with similar experiences will join them in the fight to defeat the condition.

Each group needs a minimum of three core members to fulfil the roles of chairman, treasurer and secretary.
The ARUK Macclesfield Fundraising Group are starting their fundraising with a coffee morning and are looking for people who can spare some time to help.

Gillian Edwards, North West Regional Fundraising Officer at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said:

“We’re so grateful to the group for supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK. Dementia affects a huge proportion of the population – one in three people over 65 in the UK will die with some form of the condition. Fantastic fundraising efforts like thiswill help us to defeat dementia sooner. We are extremely grateful to the Mayor for taking time out her busy schedule to formally launch the group and ultimately create awareness of such an important cause.”
