Manford’s Comedy Club to play Cheshire dates.
Comedian Jason Manford and his brother Colin set up Manford’s Comedy Club two years ago with the premise of bringing comedians from the UK circuit, personally selected by the brothers, to small towns and cities across the country for a night of live comedy.
The 35-year old Salford comedian, explains: “Me and Colin had always been interested in the comedy clubs. We both played thousands, and I’ve played clubs all over the world. So we felt knowledgeable enough to start a business where we could say to our audience that we guarantee you a brilliant night of comedy by picking the best comics on the UK circuit and putting them in brilliant venues.”
Since its launch, Manford’s Comedy Club has booked over 260 comedians to entertain more than 40,000 people in 57 different locations across the country including holiday parks, art centres, nightclubs and theatres.
It has seen monthly sell-out shows and special guests dropping in such as John Bishop, Sarah Millican, Russell Kane and Michael McIntyre.
Jason sometimes pops in for surprise visits when he can – he has been touring with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and is due to start a new project with ITV called Big Heads which he describes as ‘a big game show a bit like It’s a Knockout’. Colin meanwhile keeps things running smoothly as MC.
Manford’s Comedy Club has 14 regular clubs across the country including Cheshire and Manchester venues such as Altrincham’s Garrick Playhouse, Ellesmere Port’s Civic Hall, Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre, Northwich’s Memorial Court, Poynton’s Workmens Club and Runcorn’s The Brindley.
There are also plans to bring it to Alderley Edge, with Jason saying: “We’ve just found a fantastic venue in Alderley Edge, the Festival Hall. We’re in the process of scheduling dates, but we aim for shows to start in early spring.”
Jason added: “I know how easy it is to do nothing, how easy it would be to sit and watch your favourite comedians on YouTube or Dave Ja Vu, but I know, and I think you know too, that there is simply, nothing like live comedy – it’s why stand-up comedy remains one of the best nights out you’ll ever have.”
