Liverpool are pondering a bid for Dimitri Payet after the West Ham player told the club he was no longer willing to play for them, despite signing a new, improved contract last year.
The player is believed to be furious that West Ham turned down a £20 million bid from his former club Marseille.
West Ham have pleaded with the French international to see through the season with them, but he has refused.
West Ham are adamant that they will not sell their star player, but it seems to be a problem with a sale to Marseille rather than a sale in itself that is at the heart of the dispute.
Liverpool have been monitoring the situation but would need to make around a £25 million bid for a player Jurgen Klopp admires to test the resolve of The Hammers. Arsenal are also thought to be interested.
According to club sources, Payet told West Ham that he is suffering from a back injury – and reiterated that he wants to go.
