A poll of 1,000 Brits’ photography habits has revealed that we now treasure photos of our pets over those of birthdays, engagements and first days at school.
The results, released by online photo and gift retailer Printerpix, reveal that our most treasured photos show:
· A new baby (23%)
· Group family shot (16%)
· Wedding day (14%)
· Pets (13%)
· Favourite holiday (8%)
Birthday photos (7%), engagements (1%) and a child’s first day at school (1%) came at the bottom of the list of most treasured photos, with women valuing new baby photos the most and men preferring shots from their favourite holiday.
The results also reveal the way our life priorities change with age. Those under the age of 45 said that their most treasured photos were baby, holiday and group family photos, while those over 45 said wedding photos were top of their list.
However, those aged over 65 showed a surprising lack of sentimentality. Eighty-two per cent said that they would pay £100 or less to keep their most valued photo, and 24% said they would pay nothing at all to keep it.
Also surprisingly, younger people showed that they are far more appreciative of their photos of family, friends and special moments.
One third (33%) of 18 to 24-year-olds said that photos help to bring people together, compared to a national average of 26%. Similarly, 18 to 24-year-olds were the age group most likely to feel happy as a result of their photos, with almost half (46%) saying they cheered them up.
