With Christmas Day just ten sleeps away, Manchester City’s CitySanta v CityElf Christmas competition is heating up and this week City in the Community (CITC) participants visited the City Football Academy to declare their side.
The festive competition first kicked off in November and ever since Manchester City players, past and present, have been pledging allegiance to their favourite side. This week eight CITC participants from Newall Green Primary School in Wythenshawe visited the City Football Academy to show their Christmas colours and take part in a festive photo shoot just like the one their football heroes featured in.
As part of the City’s Christmas initiative, the Club are donating an additional £5 for every jumper purchased to local community football projects in Manchester, many of which are run by City in the Community, who this year celebrate 30 years of empowering lives through football.
Newall Green Primary School are one of the many local schools where CITC deliver an extensive range of community programmes to students every day. These include physical education classes, extra-curricular sport for boys, girls and staff, ‘One City’ Disability Awareness sessions, and a selection of health and nutrition activities.
As part of CITC’s 30th anniversary and the club’s festive celebrations, Manchester City’s Premier League fixture v Arsenal on 18 December has been designated the Club’s official BlueChristmas matchday. Fans are being asked to tweet photos of themselves in Blue Santa hats to @citctweets and at half-time on Sunday three fans sporting their festive Blue Santa hats could be in for a chance to win prizes, including two Etihad flights to anywhere around the world, if they’re picked up the ‘Santa Cam’.
There’ll be plenty of festive fun going on beforehand too, including a Santa’s grotto, face painting and a CITC themed selfie booth making it a can’t miss matchday for any City fan.
As the build up to Christmas continues, fans can get involved by voting for their favourite side online. The winning team will be announced on Christmas Eve and everyone who has voted for that team will be entered into a prize draw to meet the winning captain, crown his team the winner and receive a shirt signed by that player.
