Everton FC to Man Utd: £22 million for Baines

ctevertonEverton have reacted angrily to Manchester United bid to prise away star defender Leighton Baines on the cheap.

Sources within Goodison say the initial bid, believed to be as low as £10 million, was “frankly insulting”.

Old Trafford has tabled the bid, despite the fact that Moyes does not officially join them until July 1st.

Everton suspect that the low-ball bid is an effort to officially inform Baines that United are interested in him, as he starts new contract talks. The 28-year-old has two years left on an existing deal and Everton are believed to want to offer him a new contract on £70,000 a week.

However, although the club are adamant that they do not want to sell the player, they are also aware that if a very serious bid arrives, then the banks might put pressure on them to sell.

But certainly that problem would only arise if Old Trafford were offering above £20 million.

Banks wont be putting pressure on to sell anyone. Increase in TV money this season has already covered any issues there. If we want to be making big purchases in the market we may need to sell someone like Fellaini, but, Martinez wants to keep Baines as he fits with his preferred style of play.

Baines will only leave if the player himself forces the move.

Not worth 20m or aboive, the guy is an average left back and in reality is 7/8th best in prem lge.

Not fit to lace evra’s boots and fact moyes wants him is disgraceful and proves moyes is scared of the utd job .

Also, only reason utd had bidded is because moyes is now boss, Sir Alex never wanted this weak left back and never rated him….fact.

Terry, you are a complete plank!! Obviously support the inferior reds across the park and no nothing about football. Stats dont lie, assists, goals, free kicks penalties….no other left back in the league comes close to Baines overall abilities……fact!! A fantastic player that consistently performs week in and week out…..get over yourself and compare the stats that have been laid in front of you for the last 3 years, stats dont lie!!!

Well that about covers it for Terry. You do wonder how many United fans will need to be told they have to pay Baines value to us…not his market rate…if they want him!

I think Terry is absolutely right and Man U should only pay £45 million and not a penny more
